The summer months can elicit qualities of warmth, excess activity, indigestion, burning eyes, and fiery temperament. To help calm your nervous system and support your bodies attempt to self-regulate try exploring the idea of stepping onto the mat this summer with more ease and serenity by slowing the pace of your Asana flow to create a much more refreshing and revitalizing practice. Throughout your yoga practice, focus on smooth, fluid breaths with a complete exhale to quite and soothe the body-mind. By taking a longer exhale you can draw forth the body's natural relaxation response. Invite cooling imagery into your practice such as visualizing a cool breeze blowing around you, or the refreshing sound of trickling water from a babbling brook, pond or stream. And try lying on your belly during Savasana, so that your core can connect to the earth.
