Kevin Ballenger - E-RYT 200 Yoga Instructor, MRT Instructor (Mindful Resilience for Trauma Recovery), Co-Owner of Total Harmony Yoga. He has been been practicing yoga for several years and completed his RYT 200 at Total Harmony Yoga in 2013. He has discovered the great benefits of yoga on the mind and body, and practices on a daily basis. His classes are filled with his passion and soul as he gives his all in each session. Before Kevin jumped on the path of yoga, he received an athletic football scholarship, playing for two years at Texas Lutheran University. Kevin has lived with and helped mentor abused and neglected adolescents in a group home and at a wilderness camp in North Carolina. Here he made great strides in their lives to become successful young adults today. He has also volunteered with the American Heart Association, educating and teaching doctors, nurses and other medical professionals in how to administer the proper procedures for first aid and CPR in developing countries such as Egypt, Colombia, Haiti and Ecuador. Kevin recently retired in 2016 from the US Army as a First Sergeant and after serving 30 years of military service. He served in the Infantry and was a Drill Sergeant with mobilizations in South America, Asia, and the Middle East while supporting and defending various military campaigns. Kevin has 12 years of classroom instruction experience teaching Leadership Management and Military History at the University of Puerto Rico Rico-Rio Piedras, Universidad Del Este-Carolina, University of Texas at San Antonio, and the Alamo Community Colleges. Additionally, he founded and established the first Army Basic Instruction Drill Sergeant Reserve Company in the illustrious history of Puerto Rico at Fort Buchanan in San Juan in 2004. While serving as a Reservist, he worked for various consulting and investigative firms in both Chicago and South Florida, traveling and working in many cities along the East Coast from Boston to Florida. Kevin holds a BA in Public Administration with a minor in Political Science from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, and a MBA from the Universidad de Interamericana in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has provided yoga instruction to the Trinity University Men's Baseball team in San Antonio. The team went on to the College World Series with a strong playoff run in 2015, and then winning the National Baseball title in 2016. When not enhancing his yoga practice and classes, and helping to make Total Harmony Yoga a successful studio and a sacred place to practice, you will find him cycling on his road or mountain bike.
